Family members of EU citizens in Portugal

CRUE often starts with the EU citizen, but family members may create a wider residence file involving proof of relationship, dependency, residence and AIMA procedures.

The EU citizen file comes first in many cases

The EU citizen registers residence through CRUE when living in Portugal for more than three months. This registration may become a reference point for family members who accompany or join the EU citizen.

Family member categories matter

AIMA identifies family member situations such as spouse, descendants up to 21, dependent descendants over 21 and dependent ascendants. Each category can require different documents.

Documents can be international

Marriage records, birth records and other civil registry documents may need proper format, apostille or certified translation depending on the issuing country and the receiving authority.

Family and residence support beyond CRUE

This page covers family residence support, document preparation, translations, apostilles and legal review where needed.
