When should you apply for CRUE?
The official rule is that CRUE should be requested within 30 days after the first three months of entering Portugal.
The 3 months plus 30 days rule
EU citizens can generally stay in Portugal for up to three months with a valid identity document. After those first three months, the registration certificate should be requested within 30 days.
Why not leave it too late
Late registration can create problems when you need to show a clean residence history, deal with other administrative steps or plan for permanent residence later.
Municipal timing varies
Some municipalities provide same-day service, some use appointments, and some review documents before giving an appointment. Timing is therefore practical as well as legal.
If you already passed the deadline
Do not ignore the situation. Send a quick question or pre-check. We can help you understand what to prepare and how to approach the municipality.
Ask about your timing
