Employment contract for CRUE in Portugal

A Portuguese employment contract can be one of the clearest documents for an employee CRUE application.

Short answer

If your CRUE route is based on employment, the employment contract or employer declaration is usually central evidence. The municipality may also expect identity, address proof, NIF and other practical documents.

What the employment document should show

  • Employer name and identification.
  • Employee name matching the identity document.
  • Start date.
  • Role or function.
  • Place of work or Portuguese work context.
  • Signature or formal employer confirmation.
  • Current validity of the employment relationship.

If the contract is not yet signed

An offer letter or future start date may be weaker than a signed active employment contract. The municipality may ask for additional confirmation.

If you work for a foreign company

Remote work for a foreign employer should be reviewed carefully. It may not be treated like local employment and may create separate tax or social security questions.

How we help

We review the employment evidence, match it with the municipal checklist and identify whether additional proof should be prepared before the appointment.

Check your employment evidence

Send the municipality and a short description of your work situation. We will tell you whether it looks like a standard employee CRUE case.
