Short answer
If you are an EU, EEA, Swiss or Andorran citizen retiring in Portugal and staying for more than three months, you should expect to register your residence through CRUE in the municipality where you live.
Retiree evidence to prepare
- Valid passport or national identity card.
- Proof of real residence in Portugal.
- Pension statement or other income evidence.
- Bank statement or proof of sufficient resources, if useful or requested.
- Health coverage evidence where relevant.
- NIF if required locally or already available.
The address proof issue
Retirees may buy property, rent long-term, live with family or stay in temporary accommodation during the move. Each scenario produces different address evidence and should be checked before the municipal step.
Healthcare and tax are separate
CRUE is not the same as SNS registration, tax residence or pension taxation. Those matters may become relevant after CRUE but should be handled as separate issues when needed.
How we help retirees
We review the pension/resources evidence, check the address proof and prepare the municipal route. If the move also involves documents, property, tax or healthcare steps, we can direct those to the right service path.
