Official CRUE fees vs private assistance fees

A clear CRUE service must separate public fees from private service fees. This page explains that difference.

Official fees are public authority fees

Official fees are charged by the competent public authority for issuing or handling the certificate. National gov.pt information refers to 15 EUR or 7.50 EUR for children under 6, while some municipalities publish their own current fee tables.

Private assistance fees are service fees

CRUE Portugal charges 500 EUR for preparation and support. This includes analysis of the practical route, checklist preparation, document review, appointment guidance and practical assistance.

Why transparency matters

Clients should never be confused about what goes to the public authority and what pays for private assistance. We show both because trust is part of the product.

What may be charged separately

Staff travel, translations, apostilles, notarial acts, urgent work, legal consultation, non-EU family matters, permanent residence, citizenship and tax work are separate from standard CRUE Assistance.

Legal Framework

  • gov.pt, Residir em Portugal, fee information for EU citizen registration.
  • AIMA, Certificado de Registo para Nacionais UE, fees table reference.
  • Municipal reference example: Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, municipal fee table for EU citizen registration certificate.

Frequently asked questions

Two separate costs — two separate parties

Every CRUE process involves at least two different costs. One goes to the public authority. One goes to whoever is helping you prepare. They are not the same thing and one does not replace the other.

Official fee

Charged by the Câmara Municipal or competent public authority for processing and issuing the CRUE certificate. National public information refers to 15 EUR for adults and 7.50 EUR for children under 6, though municipal fee tables may differ. This amount is paid directly to the public authority — not to CRUE Portugal.

Private assistance fee

Charged by CRUE Portugal for preparation, document review, coordination and practical support. The standard CRUE Assistance package is 500 EUR. This amount covers private service work — it has no connection to what the municipality charges.

Official fees

The municipality or competent public authority may charge an official fee when processing the CRUE registration. This is a public charge, not a service fee.

Charged by the public authority. The Câmara Municipal sets and collects the official fee. CRUE Portugal has no role in this payment and does not receive any part of it.

Amount and payment method can vary. National public information refers to 15 EUR for adults and 7.50 EUR for children under 6. Individual municipalities may publish their own current fee tables. The exact amount and payment method must be confirmed for the specific municipality handling your case.

Not controlled by CRUE Portugal. We cannot set, change or waive official municipal fees. If a municipality updates its fee, we have no ability to affect that change.

Usually paid at or after the appointment. In most cases the official fee is paid at the Câmara Municipal during or after the appointment. We will confirm the practical payment process for your municipality during preparation.

Private assistance fees

The CRUE Assistance fee covers the private preparation and support work that CRUE Portugal provides. It is separate from and independent of any official municipal charge.

Initial situation review. Assessment of your citizenship, municipality, basis of residence, address proof situation and family circumstances before the process begins.

Document checklist for your specific case. Requirements differ by municipality and by basis of residence. The checklist is based on your actual situation, not the generic national version.

Proof-of-address review. We review the address evidence you have and identify whether it is likely to be accepted by your municipality. We flag gaps before the appointment.

Municipality-specific preparation. Each Câmara Municipal has its own practical requirements. We prepare your case to match those, not a generic template.

Appointment preparation. Guidance on what to bring, what to expect and how to respond if the municipality asks additional questions.

Coordination and practical support. We handle the process of securing the appointment and manage the practical steps that sit between you and the certificate.

Follow-up guidance. If the municipality requests supplementary documents or raises questions after the appointment, we help you respond.

Costs that may be separate

Some cases require additional work or third-party services that are not part of the standard 500 EUR package. These are identified during the pre-check and quoted separately where applicable.

Translations. If your documents are not in Portuguese or English, certified translation may be required. Cost depends on the language and document type.

Apostilles or certification. Some documents issued outside Portugal require apostille or notarial certification. These are obtained through official channels at third-party cost.

Travel to municipality appointments. If personal accompaniment requires travel, transport and time costs are quoted separately.

Document correction. If a document has an error — a wrong name, incorrect address or missing field — correcting it may involve additional steps with the issuing authority.

Legal or tax review. Cases that raise questions beyond CRUE registration — for example, questions about basis of residence, prior immigration history or tax status — require a separate consultation.

Non-EU family, AIMA, permanent residence or citizenship matters. These are separate legal processes. They are not part of the CRUE Assistance package and require a separate service agreement.

What we will not do

Clear limits prevent misunderstanding about what the service includes and what it cannot offer.

No fake address packages. Address proof must reflect where you actually live. We can help you understand which lawful proof options are available for your situation. We do not create or source false residence evidence.

No guarantee of municipal acceptance. The decision to accept or reject a CRUE application is made by the Câmara Municipal, not by CRUE Portugal. We work to give your case the best practical preparation. We cannot promise a specific outcome.

No promise that rules are the same across municipalities. What one municipality accepts, another may not. Document format requirements, acceptable address evidence and appointment processes vary. We prepare your case for your specific municipality, not a national average.

No representation that CRUE is a visa, residence card or citizenship process. CRUE is a registration certificate for EU citizens confirming their right to reside in Portugal. It is not a visa, a permanent residence card or any step in a citizenship application.
